At Sony’s PlayStation 5 reveal event on June 11, IO Interactive announced Hitman 3, which it is calling the dramatic inclusion to the World of Assassination trilogy first started in 2016’s Hitman. The cinematic trailer shows a group of agents in suits, presumably hunting down Agent 47.
The gameplay trailer previewed a new hit for Agent 47, which takes place in a massive skyscraper in Dubai. 47 climbs the side of the skyscraper in a high-altitude infiltration suit to take down some powerful individuals — potentially belonging to the shadow organization from the previous two Hitman games.
Hitman 3 will mark the second game for IO Interactive after it went independent in 2017, and retained the Hitman license from Square Enix. The studio then launched Hitman 2 in 2018.
In a PlayStation Blog post, IO interactive revealed that players can carry their locations and their progress from Hitman 2 into Hitman 3. Players who own Hitman and Hitman 2 can play the entire series inside Hitman 3.
IO Interactive will launch Hitman 3 for PlayStation 5 in January 2021. It’s currently unclear if the game is exclusive to the PlayStation 5, or if it will also come to the Xbox Series X. Hitman 3 will also come to PlayStation 4.
