Get the ‘Antisocial Mask’ for a $5 donation

Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

On Monday, Borderlands developer Gearbox Software announced a new initiative to help healthcare workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Borderlands 3 players can donate $5 to Direct Relief through the Gearbox merchandise store, and get an in-game cosmetic in return.

By donating $5 to Direct Relief, players can earn a SHiFT code from Gearbox, which unlocks a new “Antisocial Mask” cosmetic for their in-game characters. These are essentially the same masks you’d find on any responsible citizen roaming the streets today, but on the face of Amara, Moze, Zane, or FL4K instead.

Player donations to Direct Relief go toward buying protective medical supplies to healthcare workers. “This campaign and these contributions are coming at a critical time in the pandemic,” said Thomas Tighe, president and CEO of Direct Relief, in a news release. “While states are opening, we continue to see surges in the spread of Coronavirus and there is still a need to provide PPE for frontline healthcare workers. Direct Relief is deeply grateful to Gearbox for its partnership.”

The donation center is currently live the Gearbox Loot store, and players can start donating now.
