Final Fantasy 14’s next big update, patch 5.3, will be released on Aug. 11.

The update was originally slated for a June release, but was pushed to July. An update from producer Naoki Yoshida confirms this latest delay.

The Final Fantasy 14 development team had to begin working from home due to the coronavirus pandemic, and this caused major delays as the team adjusted to the changes.

“This matter was complicated by the fact that, due to the size of our QA teams, and the nature of the testing required of them, working in the office could not be avoided,” Yoshida said in a forum post. “Preparing a working environment in the office that adhered to social distancing guidelines and regulations required more time, resulting in this two-month delay.”

He noted that, now that the team has adjusted, patches will continue to release every three and a half months or so after patch 5.3 is released.

This means that the Moogle Treasure Trove event will continue for yet another month, so if you’ve been slacking on farming tomes from the event, you have more time. The Dragon Quest crossover event is also returning, starting July 2 and lasting until July 27, so any players who haven’t finished that yet still have some fun content to enjoy during the lull.
