San Diego Comic-Con is online this year, and that means anyone who wants to can check out the conventions cavalcade of panels. This year that includes a The New Mutants panel where literally anything on earth could happen. This is a movie that has been to hell and back before the pandemic.

The panel, scheduled for 2 p.m. PDT on Thursday, will be streamed live on the Comic-Con@Home YouTube channel. The line-up is set to include the film’s writer and director Josh Boone, as well as several of the cast members including Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt , and Henry Zaga.

Few movies have ever come into Comic-Con in as strange a position as The New Mutants. Not only has the film been delayed around half-a-dozen times over the last three years, but it now faces questions about whether or not it will appear in theaters at all. Over the past few days, rumors have swirled that Disney might simply release the movie onto its Disney Plus streaming service, with a majority of theaters in the United States still closed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

If that really is the case, it’s entirely possible that this panel could be where the announcement is made. Or it could just include another delay announcement. Who knows, maybe they’ll just screen the whole movie on the stream? After years of waiting, we’re this close to seeing this thing, making The New Mutants panel one of the most essential of the weekend.
