Rick and Morty gets an anime short by Tower of God director

Rick and Morty is my favorite anime

Julia Lee (she/her) is a guides producer, writing guides for games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Genshin Impact. She helped launch the Rift Herald in 2016.

Tower of God director Takashi Sano put together a Rick and Morty anime short with the help of Telecom Animation Film.

Rick and Morty vs. Genocider is an eight-minute short that chronicles Morty’s journey to Japan to seek out his grandpa. While the art style in it isn’t what you’d typically associate with anime, it’s unique and certainly different from what we’re used to, while keeping in the Rick and Morty style.

Both of the Japanese dub voice actors for Rick and Morty reprised their roles for the short. While Morty’s voice actor, Keisuke Chiba, is mainly known for his role as Morty, Rick’s voice actor, Youhei Tadano has appeared in many different series, like Brand New Animal and Megalobox.

The short’s canon correlation to the series has yet to be confirmed, but with how many different timelines and versions Rick and Morty has, it’s not entirely impossible for the events in the short to have occurred.

Season 4 of Rick and Morty wrapped earlier this year and season 5 is on its way.
