Superhot: Mind Control Delete, which was originally an expansion to 2016’s Superhot but grew into a stand-alone game, now has a release date: It will launch July 16, developer Superhot Team announced Thursday. Anybody who bought the original game — that is, spent money on Superhot, rather than got it via a giveaway like Twitch Prime or Xbox Games With Gold — will get the follow-up for free.
Superhot Team launched Mind Control Delete into early access at the end of 2017, a few months after it released Superhot VR. The expansion has since ballooned into what the team refers to as the third Superhot game. Superhot fans can expect more story in Mind Control Delete, as well as new types of characters and weapons to use. Like Superhot before it, Superhot: Mind Control Delete revolves around manipulating time to your advantage. The game moves in slow motion, until you either move or attack; then the world around you moves in normal time. This makes Superhot a combination of puzzle game and first-person shooter.
Mind Control Delete will be available on Linux, Mac, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. The PC version will be sold via Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store, and the Humble Store. Notably, Superhot Team did not announce a Nintendo Switch version of Mind Control Delete. The original game was released on Switch in August 2019. For now, the studio is offering a DRM-free copy of Mind Control Delete on PC for anyone who has purchased Superhot on the Switch eShop.
As long as players have purchased the original Superhot before Mind Control Delete’s release on July 16 — on the Epic Games Store, GOG, PlayStation 4, Origin, Steam, or Xbox One — they’ll get a free copy of Superhot: Mind Control Delete at launch. (The redemption of the offer varies depending on where you bought the game; see Superhot Team’s FAQ for specifics.) If you haven’t bought the original Superhot yet, it’s currently on sale for $9.99 (60% off) on Steam.
