One of Call of Duty: Warzone’s underbarrel shotguns is acting more like a sniper rifle

No matter where you go, the FR 556 underbarrel will get you

Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare’s fifth season is underway, and players have discovered a potential oversight. The new season increased the range for the FR 556 rifle, and at least one YouTuber thinks it may have broken another aspect off the gun: the underbarrel shotgun.

In Call of Duty: Warzone, players can attack underbarrel shotguns to some of their weapons, allowing them to swap to a short-range weapon very quickly without taking up a second weapon slot. According to TheXclusiveAce, the FR 556’s underbarrel shotgun is normally a two to three shot kill — not as potent as the average shotgun. But since the patch, the FR 556’s underbarrel kills in a single shot from long range.

In their video, TheXclusiveAce points out that the FR 556’s underbarrel can now get a one-shot kill against a fully armored opponent 15 meters away. But this isn’t a simple buff to all underbarrel shotguns. This only works with the FR 556.

Like TheXclusiveAce says, it’s very unlikely this buff to the FR 556’s underbarrel is intentional. This causes some serious problems for Warzone players, as shotguns aren’t usually that effective at that range — and certainly not when it’s an attachment instead of a real shotgun.

The attachment has started to gain popularity since Season 5 patch, with streamers like HusKerrs using it to eliminate an entire squad at once.

In a comment thread about TheXclusiveAce’s video on the Warzone subreddit, user metalhead4 also claims to have used the FR 556 underbarrel to cause some chaos. “Yeah I just wiped a squad of 3 very easily with it. One tapped each of em. Use it while you can, it’s like the only time a shotgun has ever been REAL in this game.”

TheXclusiveAce does mention some upsides to the bug, like how the FR 556 isn’t too useful in Warzone, and that you can’t resupply the underbarrel shotgun with standard shotgun ammo. But the presumed bug will continue to frustrate players until Infinity Ward implements a solution.

We’ve reached out to Infinity Ward to confirm if this is a bug or working as intended, and will update the story when we get a response.
