Cobra Kai, the streaming spinoff serial of The Karate Kid cinematic universe, will get a video game adaptation on Oct. 27. Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues, is a side-scrolling beat-em-up for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, IGN reports.
Mainstays Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, voiced by original actors Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, will lead playable fighters from their respective dojos through Cobra Kai’s multiple levels, as the trailer below shows. Newcomers Robby, Miguel, and Hawk are also on the eight-character roster. Each fighter will have a skill tree to upgrade, and building out either Miyagi-Do or Cobra Kai is part of the story progression.
Cobra Kai will have more than 28 story missions, with boss fights included (a showdown with the psychopath John Kreese seems inevitable). Players will have to complete both dojos’ story arcs to get to the game’s true conclusion.
Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues is published by GameMill Entertainment, which is behind a swathe of recently announced licensed adaptations, including G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout and Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix, both of which will launch on the same three consoles as Cobra Kai. GameMill was also responsible for a title many in video games culture are familiar with: 2003’s Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing.
Cobra Kai, which aired in 2018 and 2019 via YouTube Premium, was acquired by Netflix in June. Those two seasons will join Netflix’s offerings on Aug 28, and the third season is slated for sometime in 2021.
