Sega will release a sequel to Puyo Puyo Tetris, the mashup of two puzzle game classics, this December. Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on Dec. 8, with versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X coming this holiday. A Windows PC version will be released on Steam in early 2021.

New to Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is a Skill Battle mode that introduces character-specific skills and item cards that will let players customize their play style. Like the original, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 will feature a story-based adventure mode with a cast of both new and returning characters. Other modes include Versus, Fusion, Swap, Party, and Big Bang, alongside a tournament mode and tutorials.

Sega promises “plenty of content beyond launch” in the form of downloadable content.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 costs $39.99, and players who purchase the Xbox One version will be able to upgrade to the Xbox Series X version at not additional cost via Microsoft’s Smart Delivery feature. Sega noted that the digital PS4 version from PlayStation Store and the physical version will also offer access to the PS5 version at no extra cost when it launches.
