The Last Campfire, the next game from No Man’s Sky developer Hello Games, launches on Thursday, Aug. 27. It will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Apple Arcade.
First revealed at the end of 2018, the game remains mysterious. An appearance during March’s Nintendo Indie World stream depicted a surreal fantasy world setting, where platform puzzle-solving appeared to be the core gameplay.
Narratively, players are asked to explore the world as a cute, beanbag-looking character, find the eponymous last campfire, and light it. Hello Games offered three screenshots alongside a brief announcement of the game’s launch date on Wednesday.
In 2018, Sean Murray, Hello Games’ co-founder, explained that The Last Campfire is the story of “a lost ember trapped in a puzzling place, searching for meaning and a way home.” Hello Games’ Chris Symonds and Steven Burgess led its development; the pair were also behind Frontier Developments’ LostWinds, launched in 2008 on Nintendo Wii.
The Last Campfire’s PC version is exclusive to the Epic Games Store.
