Star Wars is coming to The Sims 4

A galaxy far, far away

The Sims 4 will get a new Star Wars-themed Game Pack, publisher Electronic Arts announced during Gamescom 2020’s Opening Night Live event. Star Wars: Journey to Batuu will be released on Sept. 8.

Frankly, it looks awesome. In the trailer, a Sim picks up a lightsaber and appears to be transported to Batuu, a remote planet in the Star Wars universe. You might recognize it from Disney’s new Star Wars theme park, Galaxy’s Edge — it’s even got Vi Moradi, a Resistance spy who’s a main character at the park.

The Game Pack announced Thursday is the first since Realm of Magic, which was released in 2019. Plenty of Stuff Packs have been released since then, though, including the Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack that was added in July. The Sims 4’s last major expansion, Eco Lifestyle, was released in June.

If all these different pack names are confusing, here’s the breakdown: Expansion Packs are the big gameplay additions that can drastically alter the game. They often include large-scale gameplay stuff — for instance, in Eco Lifestyle, The Sims 4 got a new environment rating system. Game Packs are described as “medium-sized,” and often add a focused experience. Stuff Packs are smaller, adding themed elements, clothes, and decorations.

EA announced the new The Sims 4 Game Pack at the kickoff of Gamescom 2020, the German gaming convention which pivoted to digital due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
