Frog Fractions 3 discovered inside tiny, adorable hat

On Monday, we reported that Frog Fractions — the bizarre game that masquerades as an old-school educational game — was available for the first time on Steam. Titled Frog Fractions: Game of the Decade Edition, you can still get it for free and play it in 4K resolution. But, if you pick up the optional downloadable content, you’ll also get the next game in the series.

That’s right: Frog Fractions on Steam is a Trojan horse, serving as the vehicle for Frog Fractions 3 to assault your PC. Or it might actually be Frog Fractions 4. Not even the developer is sure at this point.

The discovery of the next Frog Fractions game is attributed to journalist Jonathan Bolding. Writing for PC Gamer, Bolding quipped that the optional DLC, titled Hop’s Iconic Hat, might actually be the next game. Turns out he was right.

“I went and bought the $8 ‘Hop’s Iconic Cap’ DLC, because I cannot help myself, and it is in fact, Frog Fractions 3,” Bolding wrote on Monday. “If you start without the hat, the game you play is Frog Fractions as you might remember it. If you start the game wearing the hat, you’ll be prompted to choose a save slot before being dumped into what seems like Frog Fractions, but is very much not. I won’t spoil that for you.”

But what number game in the series is this? Bolding reached out to developer Jim Crawford for comment, only to discover that even he’s not 100% sure of the timeline at this point.

“It’s a Frog Fraction sequel,” Crawford said. “In my headcanon: Frog Fractions 2 was the Kickstarter/ARG to find Frog Fractions 2. Frog Fractions 3 was Glittermitten Grove. Frog Fractions 4 is the hat DLC.”
