It’s part of the Marvel Universe update

Fortnite developer Epic Games added a new Marvel detail to the island overnight: a Black Panther monument called Panther’s Prowl. Marvel and Black Panther fans have begun visiting the statue on the Fortnite island and paying tribute to actor Chadwick Boseman, according to Eurogamer. Boseman, who starred in Black Panther, died at 43 last week due to complications from colon cancer.

The new Marvel crossover Fortnite season began last week. The Fortnite map has been evolving with different points-of-interest added across the map. You can find the monument to the left of Misty Meadows.

An Epic Games spokesperson confirmed to Kotaku that the monument was previously planned. “As with the rest of the world, we were greatly saddened to learn of the passing of actor Chadwick Boseman,” the spokesperson said. “The Black Panther monument arrived this morning as part of a previously-planned narrative for the new Chapter 2 - Season 4 season.”

Panther’s Prowl is the third Marvel update to the Fortnite map after Ant-Man and X-Men references were added over the last week. Players can expect more of these events as the Marvel narrative unfolds and Galactus approaches the island.

The Marvel updates are available for all Fortnite players, except for those on iOS and Mac devices. In August, Apple revoked Epic Games’ developer access for the game after it broke Apple’s payment processing rules. A lawsuit is ongoing. Apple users can still play Fortnite, but aren’t able to access new content added to other platforms due to the developer restrictions.
