A birthday party’s all fun and games — till the drunken host dares you to call the person you love most in the world and confess your undying love.
Based on the critically acclaimed play of the same name, The Boys in the Band follows a group of nine gay men who gather for a birthday party in New York City. What starts as a lively event quickly gets darker, as the host (played by the The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons) issues that fateful challenge. Also in attendance is the host’s straight friend from college — and the two may or may not have lingering feelings for one another.
If you couldn’t tell by the cast lineup, The Boys in the Band is a Ryan Murphy joint, with Joe Mantello of Wicked and Angels in America fame directing. This adaptation stars Ryan Murphy staples Zachary Quinto and Matt Bomer, alongside Andrew Rannells, Charlie Carver, Robin de Jesús, Brian Hutchinson, and Tuc Watkins.
The Boys in the Band will stream on Netflix on Sept. 30.
