Square Enix’s original mobile game based on Nier, Nier Reincarnation, is coming to North America and Europe, the developer confirmed in a livestream on Thursday. Nier Reincarnation does not yet have a release date.
During a Nier-centric livestream titled “We Have a Decent Amount of New Info,” Nier Reincarnation director Daichi Matsukawa of developer Applibot explained more about the game’s structure.
Players will be led by a ghostlike character named Mama, Matsukawa said, and traverse a space called The Cage and collect pieces of “weapon’s memory.”
“The Cage is depicted in 3D, while weapon’s memory is in 2D,” Matsukawa said in a translation from Japanese, “and as you go back and forth between these two realms, the main scenario moves forward.
“Those weapon’s memory, distorted, and whose fate was changed, need to be restored and the players will need to engage in battle in certain areas. But as for what exactly is The Cage and who is Mama, cannot be revealed here just yet, I’m afraid. This will be revealed little by little within the game.”
Nier Reincarnation, originally announced in March, will be released for Android and iOS platforms. It’s a gacha-style game, meaning players will be able to acquire weapons, equipment, and other in-game goods through random chance.
