The Craft: Legacy trailer summons the cult classic for a new generation

What’s up, witches?

Halloween is just around the corner — as are a host of new and reimagined horror movies.

The Craft: Legacy is a continuation of 1996’s cult classic The Craft. The trailer for the new version has a few nods to the original, but the 2020 version focuses on a completely different set of characters. Both movies follow a group of teenage outcasts who turn to witchcraft and the occult. The 1996 version was noted for taking teen movie cliches and reinventing them for horror.

The first trailer for the new version introduces the girls, who bond together against the mean boys at their school, and take matters into their own hands. But as they experiment with witchcraft rituals — and a totally sinister version of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” starts to play — they start to exhibit strange and unusual powers ... and things begin to go wrong. Very wrong.

The Craft: Legacy stars Cailee Spaeny, Gideon Adlon, Lovie Simone, Zoey Luna, Nicholas Galitzine, with Michelle Monaghan and David Duchovny. It’s directed by Zoe Lister-Jones and will be available on demand on Oct. 28.
