Hello Games’ newest update for No Man’s Sky will let space explorers tame, train, and breed alien lifeforms as pets. They can even speak to those pets, as part of the game’s new Companions update.
No Man’s Sky’s new alien companions each have their own personality and attributes. Players can breed their pets, as they’ll pass on genetic and physical traits. Players can also trade pets with other players. Up to six pets can be stored by default, but players can secure more storage slots by spending nanites.
The update effectively adds a procedurally generated Pokémon layer to Hello Games’ space simulation. The best part? You can put your alien companions to work; they’ll mine for resources, hunt other creatures, mark hazards, and more. Players will have to care for their space pets, which require food and attention. Giant pets can also be ridden.
Pets will also lay eggs, which players can incubate, genetically modify, and trade with others.

- Creatures that have been fed can now be interacted with to access options for milking, riding and adoption.
- Players may adopt up to six creatures at any one time. New companion slots are available to be purchased with nanites.
- Your companions can be renamed, and then customised with a new range of accessories and decals.
