Luca, the newest Pixar film, is an idyllic story about a friendship between two boys summering on the Italian Riviera. They enjoy gelato, pasta, and scooter rides— oh, and also they can turn into sea monsters! Just the little things.
The first trailer for the movie shows off the picturesque seaside and the shenanigans of the two friends as they enjoy their summer vacation. It’s the first feature-length film from director Enrico Casarosa, who previously directed the Pixar short La Luna which premiered with 2012’s Brave. The movie was announced last July, with Casarosa calling it a “deeply personal story.”
Luca premieres on June 18, though it is unclear whether it will premiere in theaters exclusively or on Disney Plus as well. Pixar’s previous film, Soul, was supposed to premiere in theaters last summer but hit Disney Plus in December.
