The original Life is Strange and its 2017 prequel, Life is Strange: Before the Storm, will be re-released in remastered form this fall, Square Enix announced Thursday during its Square Enix Presents digital showcase. The Life is Strange Remastered Collection will feature “improved visuals and animations.”
More specifically, Square Enix says Remastered Collection owners can expect “vastly improved character animation using full facial mocap performance” and other engine and lighting upgrades. The Life is Strange Remastered Collection is coming to Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One as a digital release.
The collection will be included as part of the Ultimate Edition of the next game in the franchise, Life is Strange: True Colors. Square Enix says it will offer a stand-alone release sometime later this year.
The original Life is Strange, developed by Dontnod Entertainment, was released in 2015. The episodic game series told an affecting, gripping story of teenagers Max and Chloe, and the former’s superhuman ability to rewind time. Deck Nine Games handled development duties on the prequel, Before the Storm, which focuses on Chloe and “drops the supernatural stuff, but not the heart.”
