The high-definition remaster of Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne now has a release date in the West: It will arrive May 25 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC, Atlus announced Friday.
This will mark Shin Megami Tensei 3 Nocturne HD Remaster’s worldwide debut on PC; the game was released in Japan last October, but only on PS4 and Switch. The Japanese role-playing game originally launched on PlayStation 2 in 2003. This updated version offers remastered 3D models and backgrounds, and new features like additional difficulty settings, a suspend save option, voice acting (in both English and Japanese for the Western release), and an alternate story branch.
Nocturne takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of modern-day Tokyo. The player takes control of a high schooler who fuses with the demon, Magatama, and becomes a demon himself. His journey follows him as chaos unfurls over Japan’s capital and demons from the underworld gather throughout the city.
The game uses a turn-based combat system that allows you to gather more information about your enemies and recruit foes by getting on their good side. The introduction of mechanics like these are what initially distinguished the Megami Tensei franchise and made Nocturne into a beloved gem.
Shin Megami Tensei 3 Nocturne HD Remaster is available for pre-order now; the game itself will cost $49.99 on all platforms. Those who buy the Digital Deluxe Edition, which costs $69.99, will be able to start playing on May 21. That package also comes with a bunch of additional content such as new characters, four background music packs with a total of eight tracks, and the Mercy and Expectation Map Pack. Curiously, an easier difficulty level known as Merciful is also available only in the Digital Deluxe Edition.
