Netflix’s newest DOTA: Dragon’s Blood trailer is a refresher on the game’s complicated lore

Three Dota 2 community members give you all the lore you need

Dota 2’s lore isn’t exactly front and center. You could play thousands of matches and still have no idea what the story is, which makes it even more complicated if you haven’t played the game at all. So to help get everyone up to speed before its animated series DOTA: Dragon’s Blood comes out, Netflix has released a new video that gives a basic introduction to DOTA’s lore.

The video features three prominent members of the Dota 2 community: Jake “SirActionSlacks” Kanner, Jorien “Sheever” van der Heijden, and Owen “ODPixel” Davies. Each one discusses a certain part of the game’s extended lore. They don’t cover every detail, but they do give a good enough overview to help get people ready for Dragon’s Blood.

The trio dive into the creation of the DOTA universe and some of the ancient events that explain how the game’s heroes came to be so powerful. They also talk about why the game’s two factions, the Radiant and the Dire, are pitched in eternal conflict, and how mythical gods and elements like chaos take physical forms in this world and wander around engaging in various conflicts.

The story of DOTA: Dragon’s Blood will focus on Davion, the Dragon Knight, one of DOTA’s prominent heroes, and will tell the story of his life before he joined the conflict between the Radiant and the Dire. The series will premiere on Netflix on March 25.
