The action in Monster Hunter Rise can get hectic very fast. You won’t always have time to sort through your menus to heal or select a trap to quickly capture a monster. To make taking down monsters easier, you can customize your radial menu to create quick shortcuts.

In this Monster Hunter Rise guide, we’ll teach you how to customize the radial menu, accessing options that tweak the shortcut settings so you can quickly access potions, tools, traps, and more.

How to use the radial menu

The radial menu is a set of 32 shortcuts that you can use at any time, whether you’re on a hunt or in the village.

To use the radial menu, hold down the L button. From there you’ll have the option to switch between four loadouts by pressing any of the four directions on the D-pad while still holding down the L button. Each loadout contains eight different shortcuts.

If you have the default settings set for the radial menu, you can use any shortcut by holding the L button, then moving your right stick to any shortcut. When you release the right stick, you’ll use whatever the shortcut is set to, whether that’s using an item, pulling up your map, executing a gesture, and more.

You can also activate any shortcut by highlighting it, and then pressing the right stick down. To change to this method:

  1. Press the Plus (+) button to bring up your options
  2. Navigate to the System tab, and select Options
  3. Then go to Controls, followed by Radial Menu Settings

From there you can choose Type 1, which is the release method, or Type 2, which activates shortcuts when the right stick is pushed in.

How to customize the radial menu

To change the loadouts for your radial menu, press the Plus (+) button to bring up your Items and Equipment menu, and select Radial Menu Settings. You can then choose to modify your settings for the village and for quests.

Whether you’re updating the quest or village radial menu shortcuts, you can have up to 32 shortcuts, with four loadouts that have eight shortcuts each. However, you can create up to 24 different loadouts that you can place in your main four loadouts at any time.

After selecting the loadout you want to edit, move your right stick around to select the shortcut you want to modify.

When editing the quest settings for the radial menu, you can choose from these shortcut categories:

  • Any item in your item pouch or item box
  • Any item in your crafting list so you can create new items on the fly
  • Creatures from your helper cage, which is endemic life you may have found like puppet spiders or stinkminks
  • Different buddy commands
  • Commands from the chat menu like comments, stickers, or gestures
  • Different pose sets for photos
  • And other options including the camera, the full map, the ability to fast travel, and the chat menu

You have a different set of commands on the radial menu when you’re in the village. Here’s the options you can edit while you’re in Kamura:

  • Any item in your crafting list so you can create new items on the fly
  • Different buddy commands
  • Commands from the chat menu like comments, stickers, or gestures
  • Different pose sets for photos
  • And other options including the camera, fast travel around the village, calling your Cahoot, the chat menu, and the quest board.

To change which four loadouts you are actively using, press the ZL button when you are on the main radial menu settings screen. A new menu will appear that will let you assign which loadout appears for either of the directions on the D-pad.
