Ratchet & Clank, Insomniac’s 2016 series reboot for PlayStation 4, will be patched on PlayStation 5 to run at 60 frames per second, the studio said Monday. Ratchet & Clank is currently available for everyone to download, for free, until Wednesday, March 31.
Ratchet & Clank was made free at the beginning of the month as Sony Interactive Entertainment brought back its Play at Home Initiative, to support sheltering, safety, and social distancing efforts during the global COVID-19 pandemic. It’s available to anyone with a (free) PlayStation Network account; PlayStation Plus or any other subscription is not needed.
The next game in the Ratchet & Clank series, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, will feature a 4K resolution, 30 fps “resolution” mode, as well as a “performance” mode offering a lower resolution at 60 fps. Monday’s announcement didn’t say if the update for the 2016 game would involve two options for the user or if it would be a single resolution and frame rate going forward. The patch will roll out some time in April.

Ratchet & Clank is part of the 20-game PlayStation Plus Collection on PS5, so those with a PS Plus subscription already have it. It was also offered as a free game to PlayStation Plus subscribers in March 2018.
Nine other games went free via Play at Home on March 25: Abzu, Enter the Gungeon, Rez Infinite, Subnautica, and The Witness for PS4; and Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Moss, Thumper, and Paper Beast for PlayStation VR. They’re available until April 22.
Horizon Zero Dawn, another PS Plus Collection title, will be available for free between April 19 and May 14 through the Play at Home Initiative.
