You can spend thousands on ‘Thicc Pokémon’ NFTs

But should you?

There are plenty of problems with nonfungible tokens (NFTs). The system consumes a ton of energy. Some people are stealing artwork to sell on NFT websites, without artists’ permission. And then there’s the “thicc Pokémon.”

Ryan Broderick of Garbage Day reported on Wednesday that the NFT boom is cooling off from the major surge earlier in the year, but that there’s a special new option for those interested in the nonfungible, digital art market. It’s Pokémon with large butts, doing moves like Fury Slaps, Squeakycheeks, and Bootysweep. Some of them are quite upsetting.

“HELLO THERE,” Thicc Pokémon’s creator wrote about their creation. “WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF THICC POKEMON! THIS WORLD IS INHABITED BY THE JUCIEST CREATURES YOU’VE EVER SEEN CALLED THICC POKEMON! FOR SOME PEOPLE, THICC POKEMON ARE PETS. OTHERS OWN THEM FOR BOOTY BATTLES. WHATEVER YOU DO THOUGH, MAKE SURE YOU GRAB EM ALL!

There are a bunch for sale on OpenSea, a digital goods marketplace, including Thicc Raichu, Pikachu, and Nidoran. Pidgeotto and Pidgeot are two of the worst, in my opinion. Broderick reported that a Thicc Pikachu sold for $2,000. Some are listed for upwards of $6,000, though that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to sell at that price. Still, plenty of the ones listed on OpenSea have sold, and multiple times — typically around hundreds of dollars apiece.

So yeah, these exist. Open your Ethereum wallets, folks.
