On April 20, developer Fatshark released a new content pack for Warhammer: Vermintide 2 on the PC. After some early queue troubles and a hotfix, the mode is now playable for anyone with the game, either with other players or bot-controlled allies.
The Chaos Wastes expansion is fairly meaty for a free update. There’s a new game mode, with new maps and environments to explore. Making matters worse, Chaos is the primary antagonist here, so expect things to be inherently unpredictable.
Players start out by selecting their path through an expedition map. Each mission node lists the special properties, explaining who you can expect to face, and if there are any complications in store. If you’re playing with friends, you can decide this as a team, or you can roll with bots and go whichever way you please, if you’re not the social type. Each expedition requires players to forage and upgrade their own gear via completing trials and trading coins.
The four Chaos Gods — Slaanesh, Khorne, Tzeentch, and Nurgle — can all come out to play. Sometimes Nurgle will inflict the party with a deadly curse, while another level can be interrupted by a giant Khorne castle.
Chaos Wastes is currently available on PC; a release date has yet to be announced for consoles.
