Streets of Rage 4 is bringing Max Thunder back to the playable roster. The beat-’em-up’s upcoming downloadable content, Mr. X Nightmare, will transform Max from mind-controlled boss character to playable fighter.
Publisher Dotemu and developers Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games revealed Max for Streets of Rage 4: Mr X Nightmare in a trailer released Friday. Max can be seen suplexing, body slamming, and Spinning Knuckle Bombing all manner of street thug and dirty cop in his gameplay reveal.
Max is the second confirmed character coming in Mr. X Nightmare, where he’ll be joined by Estel Aguirre, the special forces officer who also appeared as a boss in Streets of Rage 4. A third newly playable character is coming to the game, but is unconfirmed (but it’s likely Shiva, the penultimate boss of Streets of Rage 2, who also appeared in 4). Max was one of four playable characters to star in Streets of Rage 2, alongside Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding, and Eddie “Skate” Hunter.
Streets of Rage 4 was released in April 2020. We named it one of the best games of last year. Streets of Rage 4’s Mr. X Nightmare DLC is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One later this year.
