Pokimane trolled everyone with her hot tub stream

It ended up being a cute party to celebrate her birthday

Imane “Pokimane” Anys hosted her first hot tub stream, but she changed up the format: She did it fully clothed.

One of Twitch’s biggest stars (with 7.8 million followers) took on Twitch’s most controversial show type, making fun of it for her birthday. In the average hot tub stream, someone takes questions from viewers while hanging out in a jacuzzi, wearing a bathing suit.

But when Pokimane unwrapped her robe and stepped out into the camera frame, she was fully clothed and wearing a long shirt dress with a cartoon bikini bod printed onto it. The whole thing was a gag meant to celebrate her birthday.

Pokimane then chilled in a giant hot tub with members of OfflineTV, a group of LA-based content creators including streaming personalities like Lily “LilyPichu” Ki, Jeremy “Disguised Toast” Wang, and William “Scarra” Li. The group ate dinner, drank, and chatted about miscellaneous topics like Naruto.

It was basically a live stream of the streamers hanging out, except they all happened to be in a hot tub. Pokimane titled the stream, “BEST BOOBAS ON THE SITE.”

Broadcasting from a hot tub while wearing a bikini — “hot tub streaming meta,” as it’s known to fans — is a Twitch trend that picked up in early April. The streams intentionally skirt Twitch’s rules about sexual content, but they don’t violate them. Still, “Hot Tub Streaming” has kicked off a debate on what women should and shouldn’t wear while streaming.

Pokimane has professed neutrality in that debate. In early May, she told her fans that policing hot tub streams was a futile effort: “If you remove hot tub streamers, people are just gonna find some other way to skirt the line that is also sexually suggestive. My take is that, Twitch, do a better job at structuring your website.”
