Wheel of Time is getting a second season on Amazon, despite the fact that we still don't’ know when the first season will actually come out. The show’s Twitter account announced news of the renewal on Thursday along with a picture of season 2’s first script.
Wheel of Time is based on the Robert Jordan book series of the same name. The series has been making its way to television in some form or another since the early 2000s, but it wasn’t until Sony and Amazon teamed up in 2018 that the project really started to gain steam. Amazon’s series will star Rosamund Pike as a member of a powerful organization of women who hope to find the eventual savior of the world.
While Amazon has been teasing the show for months with a series of vague teasers, we still haven’t seen a full-length trailer, let alone an official date for the premiere.
Despite the announcement’s strange timing, a second season of the fantasy show shouldn’t be much of a surprise. The book series it’s based on spans 14 novels and nearly 12,000 pages, according to its Wikipedia entry. What’s more, with its investment in the Lord of the Rings series, which got an even earlier renewal for season 2, we know that Amazon is very committed to putting fantasy shows on its streaming service.
While we don’t know when the first season of Wheel of Time will actually debut, Amazon did announce in its press release that season 1 has wrapped production.
