MAPPA and Madhouse team up for anime about killing aliens with classical music

Welcome to Takt Op. Destiny

Complicated and creative premises are nothing new for anime, but newly announced series Takt Op. Destiny is truly something special. The series is about an apocalyptic alien invasion that can only be stopped through the power of classical music. MAPPA showed off the first trailer for the show at its 10-year anniversary event.

Takt Op. Destiny takes place in a world that’s been invaded by aliens known as D2. After these creatures arrive on Earth they eliminate all music, their one vulnerability, and quickly take over the planet. However, a small group of young women called “Musicart” who have the power of music within them and can defeat the D2 with the help of a Conductor — who seems to be a conduit for their powers. The series takes place in 2047 and will follow a Conductor named Takt and his Musicart partner named Unmei as they attempt to travel to New York and defeat the D2.

But while the show’s undeniably complicated premise is all about music, the main draw of Takt Op. Destiny will probably be how great it looks. The series is a coproduction between MAPPA and Madhouse, two of the premiere animation studios working right now. MAPPA’s previous shows include Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuri!!! on Ice, Dororo (2019), and Terror in Resonance, while Madhouse is behind One-Punch Man, Death Note, Hunter x Hunter, and Redline.

With all that pedigree working behind the scenes it’s no surprise that the action in Takt Op. Destiny already looks incredible, and we won’t have to wait long to see more. The series is set to debut on Oct. 6.
