The new season of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure goes to prison in its first full trailer. Netflix released the trailer for season 5 of the series, called JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean, during a special panel on Sunday, where it also announced that the show will begin streaming in December.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean follows Jolyne Cujoh, the latest in a long line of JoJos. Jolyne has been sentenced to 15 years in maximum security prison for a crime she didn’t commit. Shortly after she arrives at the prison, her estranged father Jotaro Kujo — one of the main characters from the Stardust Crusaders storyline of the series — arrives at the prison to warn her that someone wanted her locked up so they could kill her more easily. And, of course, this murder plot and its mysterious perpetrator all comes back to DIO, the series’ evil antagonist.

This new trailer introduces us to many of this season’s characters including both JoJos, Ermes Costello, F.F., Emporio Alnino, Weather Forecast, and Narciso Anastasia. Even with the laundry list of characters, it’s just a few of the important people who will show up throughout the season’s story. Stone Ocean will be animated by David Productions, the same animation studio that has handled the series since 2012.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean will debut worldwide on Netflix in December, before being broadcast in Japan in January 2022. This is a huge departure for Netflix, which usually gets anime seasons nearly six months after they air.
