If you’ve ever wanted a pair of Arrakis’ finest spice purveyors to grace your bookshelf, Dark Horse Direct has just the conversation piece for you. The officially licensed Dune: Sandworm Bookends are $149.99 and available for pre-order now. They’re our best look yet at the sandworms of Denis Villeneuve’s modern adaptation of Dune.
Only 2,000 sets will be sold, Dark Horse Direct said. Each bookend is 8.5 inches tall, by 8 inches wide and 6.5 inches deep, hand-painted, and made from polyresin. When bracing your collection of sci-fi hardbacks, it looks like the shai-hulud is tunneling through them, emerging in a spray of sand.
Sandworms are one of the most recognizable creatures in the Dune canon, beginning with the original 1965 novel. The bookends’ launch coincides with the Sept. 3 premiere of the long-awaited sci-fi epic, directed by Denis Villeneuve.
The film’s ensemble cast includes Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, and Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho.
