Gamescom, the world’s largest video games convention, officially begins Wednesday, Aug. 23 in Cologne, Germany. But the festivities start virtually on Tuesday, with a two-hour Opening Night Live streaming presentation hosted by The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest emcee Geoff Keighley. This year’s ONL stream starts at 2 p.m. EDT/11 a.m. PDT and can be seen at The Game Awards’ YouTube and Twitch channels.
Expect “lots of games,” Keighley says, but fewer game announcements. “This year’s ONL is less about announcing brand new projects,” Keighley told VGC, “and more about giving fans updates on some of the biggest games due out over the next year.”
This year’s ONL stream promises new previews of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Mortal Kombat 1, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Alan Wake 2, Sonic Superstars, Nightingale, Black Myth: Wukong, Tekken 8, Zenless Zone Zero, and Crimson Desert. Filmmaker Zack Snyder (Justice League, Army of the Dead) will also be on hand to show off the first teaser for his Netflix movie Rebel Moon. In addition to trailer and gameplay reveals, viewers can also expect talks with “prominent developers and creators,” Gamescom organizers say.
Last year’s Gamescom ONL was an eclectic show; Keighley secured game reveals like New Tales from the Borderlands, the new Lords of the Fallen, Wyrdsong, and Dune: Awakening. ONL 2022 was also home to new trailers for Sonic Frontiers, Hogwarts Legacy, and The Callisto Protocol, as well as reveals of the PlayStation DualSense Edge controller, a Pokémon car, and Hideo Kojima’s podcast.
When is Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live?
ONL will stream live on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m. EDT/11 a.m. PDT/7 p.m. BST/8 p.m. CEST. Check your time zone to see when the Gamescom 2023 livestream starts in your neck of the woods.
Before the stream officially starts, there will be a 30-minute pre-show hosted by Kyle Bosman “with additional premieres,” Keighley says.
How long is Gamescom ONL?
Keighley has confirmed that, like previous Gamescom ONL events, the 2023 stream will run approximately two hours.
