GTA 5 added to PlayStation Plus Extra — another way to catch up before GTA 6

A bunch of other games are coming in December, too

Are you one of the few people who still hasn’t played Grand Theft Auto 5? Now’s a good time to give it a try, because there are so many ways to play it for cheap ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6. GTA 5 is already on Xbox Game Pass, and now it’s coming to PlayStation 5’s Plus Extra subscription, letting subscribers play it for no extra cost. As part of the PlayStation service, GTA 5 is available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, with GTA Online.

GTA 6 is still pretty far off, so you’ve got some time to enjoy GTA 5. (Rockstar Games just announced GTA 6 with its first trailer on Dec. 4.) But don’t wait too long, because games don’t stay on these services forever.

Of course, GTA 5 isn’t the only game coming to PlayStation Plus. Here’s the full list:

  • Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin | PS4, PS5
  • Moto GP23 | PS4, PS5
  • Metal: Hellsinger | PS4, PS5 (“Owners of the PS4 version of Metal: Hellsinger will be able to download and play the PS5 version of the game,” Sony Interactive Entertainment said.)
  • Salt and Sacrifice | PS4, PS5
  • Moonscars | PS4, PS5
  • Mega Man 11 | PS4
  • Gigabash | PS4, PS5
  • Grime | PS4, PS5
  • Tinykin | PS4, PS5
  • Prodeus | PS4, PS5
  • Shadowrun Returns | PS4, PS5
  • Shadowrun: Dragonfall – Director’s Cut | PS4, PS5
  • Shadowrun: Hong Kong – Extended Edition | PS4, PS5

For PlayStation Premium, you’ll get:

  • Mega Man Legacy Collection | PS4
  • Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 | PS4
  • Thrillville | PS4, PS5
  • Thrillville: Off the Rails | PS4, PS5
  • Buzz Lightyear of Star Command | PS4, PS5

PlayStation Plus has three separate subscriptions: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Essential is the most basic service and costs $9.99 a month; subscribers get access to some monthly games (albeit none of the ones listed above), as well as online multiplayer. PlayStation Plus Extra is the step up for $14.99 a month, adding the whole game catalog, Ubisoft Classic, and everything offered to Essential subscribers. Premium is the most expensive tier at $17.99; it includes everything in the lower tiers, plus the classics game catalog, game trials, and cloud streaming.

This pricing system went into effect in March 2022, replacing PlayStation Now. In September, Sony raised the price of its 12-month subscriptions for PlayStation Plus across all tiers — $79.99 for Essential, $134.99 for Extra, and 159.99 for Premium.
