Percy Jackson’s first season has come to an end, after a conversation with Zeus and a confrontation with a more hidden enemy. But as fans of the books know there are far more adventures awaiting Percy and his friends than just finding the master bolt.

Despite all the books in the series just waiting to be adapted, Disney has announced that Percy Jackson season 2 is on the way, but we don’t know too much more than that just yet. Here’s everything we know about Percy Jackson season 2, and when the show might return.

Is Percy Jackson season 2 happening?

During its Q1 earnings report for 2024, held on Feb. 7, Disney confirmed that season 2 of Percy Jackson is on the way. This official renewal comes just a few weeks after the first season’s final episode, and seems to point toward the show being a pretty big success. Disney didn’t announce any additional details about the new season during its call, but we do still know a few things about the show’s future.

When would Percy Jackson season 2 release?

We don’t know exactly when season 2 will arrive, but there’s a good chance that the wait won’t be too long. It’s entirely possible that the show will return in late 2024, or early 2025, since the production already has the hang of making the show.

One possible delay could be the writing of the new season, which may have been interrupted by the Writers Guild strike in the middle of least year, but with no official news about that there’s no reason to assume it will set season 2 back.

What will season 2 of Percy Jackson be about?

The second season of the show will almost certainly adapt the second book in the series, The Sea of Monsters. As the name implies, this book sends Percy into some dangerous waters, but more importantly it also introduces a couple of fan favorite characters to the series who will be a treat to finally see in live-action.

Who is joining the cast for season 2 of Percy Jackson?

We don’t know much about who might join the cast, but one change that will have to happen is recasting Zeus. Sadly, the tremendously talented Lance Reddick passed away shortly after filming the first season of the show, so the king of Olympus will have to be portrayed by someone else for his future appearances.

As for the rest of the cast, most are likely to return, and be joined by several new members. Though we probably won’t learn who that will include until closer to season 2’s release.

Should I read the books while I wait?

Absolutely. No matter how much you liked the show or didn’t you should give Rick Riordan’s original books a read. You can stop at the end of the first series (Percy Jackson & the Olympians), or you can continue on and read all of the sequel and spinoff books, which are also pretty great.

Are there any other good Young Adult series to watch?

Your mileage may vary on how good you think they are, but we’re certainly in a busy age for YA adaptations. There’s One Piece and the upcoming live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series on Netflix. You could also watch the streaming platform’s recently canceled Shadow and Bone series. Frankly, your best bet might just be sticking to Disney Plus and watching Miss Marvel, or the National Treasure show — though we can’t really recommend that one.
