Hyper Light Drifter illustration

As a traditional counterpoint to the rest of the projects here, developer Heart Machine went for a piece of artwork from its role-playing game Hyper Light Drifter. Lead Designer Alex Preston originally considered writing a short story, but says sometimes he starts writing and finds the story turning into an illustration. Scroll down and you’ll see evidence of that.

"The image is about the emotional state of the character," Preston says. "He is exhausted, ravaged by illness and has yet to find a cure, or even much relief. [I was] trying to use his body language [and] the look in the eyes to communicate the brink that he teeters on throughout the journey. Rest periods are vital in life, and often times you don't know if you have the capacity to pull yourself from them."

Hyper Light Drifter is in the works for PC, Linux, Mac, PlayStation 4, Vita, Ouya, Wii U and Xbox One. Preston says the game’s development is moving quickly but he isn’t ready to announce a release timeframe just yet. Check out our previous coverage of the game here.
