Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Bug-Off event is a day-long challenge hosted by Flick, the red lizard.

It takes place on Saturdays during the summer months, so Northern Hemisphere players will have it from June to September and Southern Hemisphere players will have it from November to February. Flick will be around in the Resident Services plaza from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. in your timezone to host.

Just like the Fishing Tourney, players are tasked with catching as many bugs as they can within three minutes. You’ll get one point per bug and you’ll get a two point bonus if you manage to catch more than three. Every 10 points you earn, you can get a random bug-themed item from Flick as a reward.

It costs 500 Bells to enter the Bug-Off, but your first time will be free. The Bells are easily made back, as you can choose to sell all your bugs directly to Flick after every round. Bugs caught during the three-minute time period will be automatically transferred to a bug cage next to Flick, so don’t worry about inventory space.

You’ll also earn metal trophies for point milestones you achieve. You’ll get a bronze trophy at 100 points, a silver trophy at 200 points, and a gold trophy at a whopping 300 points.

To amass a ton of points, we recommend playing the Bug-Off with friends. You can start a game with friends on your island, and all the points each player earns will be accumulated for a better gain.
