For longtime fans of Disney Channel’s animated series Gravity Falls, Mabel Pines and Carly Rae Jepsen sound like a match made in glittery Technicolor heaven. The show ran for two seasons, following the adventures of twins Mabel and Dipper Pines in the small town of Gravity Falls, where supernatural occurrences are the norm. Mabel is the spunky, rainbow-loving, goofy counterpart to Dipper’s more serious, anxious character. And much like Carly Rae Jepsen in her breakout song “Call Me Maybe,” Mabel isn’t afraid to chase after boys she likes.
In the latest Broken Karaoke video from Disney Channel, that dream is a reality: Mabel (Kristen Schaal) covers a version of the Grammy-nominated song “Call Me Maybe” titled “Call Me Mabel,” which references some of Mabel’s crushes from the show, like Mermando the Merman. It really plays up her gung-ho, go-get-’em attitude when it comes to possible love interests.
Previous Broken Karaoke videos featured other Disney Channel characters singing parodies of songs, usually from Disney Channel Original Movies, such as the characters of Big City Greens putting a spin on “Queen of Mean” from Descendants 3. But “Call Me Mabel” is the video series’ first high-profile pop-song parody. It’s befitting that the honor goes to the fabulous duo of Mabel Pines and Carly Rae Jepsen.
Gravity Falls ended in 2016, but the show’s legacy continues on, with reruns airing on Disney XD. It is available to stream on Disney Plus and Hulu.
