Apex Legends guide: How to play Gibraltar

Shields, shields, and more shields

Apex Legends - A squad enters a room Respawn Entertainment/Electronic Arts

Gibraltar is Apex Legends’ biggest and beefiest character so far. He’s all about being on the front line and taking shots so his teammates don’t have to. But even with all his extra shielding, Gibraltar still takes quite a bit of finesse to master.

In this guide, we’ll make sure you know how to keep you and your team alive with Gibraltar’s skills in Apex Legends.

Passive: Gun Shield

When aiming down sight, Gibraltar puts up a small personal shield.

The shield takes a little bit of time to deploy, so if you’re behind cover, you should aim down your sights first, wait for the shield to be deployed, then peak out with the extra safety.

Your Gun Shield can only take so much damage before needs to recharge. Always keep an eye on your shield’s health so it never goes down unexpectedly.

Tactical Ability: Dome of Protection

Gibraltar lays down a dome that blocks attacks.

The dome lasts 15 seconds, which should give you plenty of time to heal, reload, or even survive a whole artillery barrage from Bangalore or Gibraltar.

The dome’s blocking potential works from inside and outside. If you’re in an especially tight spot, throw the dome between you and an enemy to create a wall between you or on top of an enemy to disorient them.

Ultimate Ability: Defensive Bombardment

Call in a mortar strike to a specific position

This ability does plenty of damage, but it’s limited to a small area. This makes it difficult to hit people, so you’re sometimes better off using it to make enemies move. Call it down on the enemy’s cover, and they’ll immediately have to sprint somewhere else.

Using your mortar strike is an excellent time to reposition. For the first few seconds after you call the ability down, it’s all the enemy will be thinking about. If you can move to another spot, you might be able to get a few shots in before they realize where you’ve gone.
