Octane is the first Legend that developer Respawn Entertainment added to Apex Legends , and he fits right in. Like some of the game’s other characters, Octane’s abilities are all about mobility. But succeeding with Octane isn’t about how fast you can run or how high you can jump. It’s about what you do with those tools.
To help you make the most of Apex Legends’ first new hero, we’ve got a few tips on how best to use his abilities.
Passive: Swift Mend
Octane automatically regenerates health
Octane can take special advantage of stim packs instead of medkits. There’s no reason to fully refill your health. Get close to full and the passive will fill up what’s missing.
If you’re in a low-loot game, Octane can share meds with his allies more often than other characters, since he needs them less because of his passive.
Tactical Ability: Stim
Octane moves faster at the cost of his health
You can’t kill yourself with this ability, so feel free to use it as often as you can if you have purple armor. Just don’t forget that you might have low health.
Use Stim as soon as you land off of the drop. The health cost is low and the additional speed could be the difference between you getting a gun and someone else grabbing it first.
Ultimate Ability: Launch Pad
Octane throws a jump pad that anyone can use to jump higher
Launch Pads take momentum into account (like everything in Apex Legends) so if you need to make an extra long jump, try getting a running start or even jumping off a high cliff.
Launch Pads are big and easy to see, and that means you can use them as bait. If someone is chasing you, throw down a launch pad and turn a corner. The enemy chasing you might just throw themselves in the wrong direction.
