Fairly early in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, you’ll be asked to find an archer to recruit. A strange combination of a missing information, vague instructions, and early unfamiliarity with the game can make the simple task in Equal Employment Opportunity Program an extremely confusing and challenging ordeal.

This small errand, however, is a great example of how missions work in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Understanding this quest will teach you a lot of what you need to succeed in the rest of the game.
Finding Pirate Island
We’re going to go very, very basic here, just to make sure you understand the fundamentals of interacting with the game and how to follow quests. We’re not trying to be condescending — it’s just that the game doesn’t explain it very well and, if you miss it, you’ll spend a lot of time frustrated.

First, make sure that you’re tracking the quest. Go to your menu, then over to the Quests tab. On the left, you’ll see the three categories of quests you’ll encounter in the game — Odyssey (the main story), World and Characters (side quests), and Bounties and Contracts (quick, money-making tasks). The fourth category at the top is just All which combines the other three in one location.
This quest is a subtask under the The Wolf Hunt Odyssey quest. Hover the cursor over the tile for the Equal Employment Opportunity Program quest to see all the information about it. At the bottom, there’s a prompt to track or untrack the quest — and this is represented visually with a gold background on the quest’s tile. Tracking a quest makes its icon show up on your HUD (in guided mode).

Next, head over to the Map tab, where you’ll be able to see the yellow icon for the quest you’re tracking. In this case, it’s just to the east of where you are, at the southern tip of Phokis. When you hover over the quest icon, you’ll get the same quest recap as you got in the Quests menu. You can also mark the icon’s location for some added emphasis (you can also do this part with Ikaros).
Finding and Recruiting the archer
There are a few people on Pirate Island, but you’re looking for one in particular. If you’re not careful, you can accidentally kill your new hire.
Which one is the archer?
Again, the first step here is to make sure that you’re tracking the quest. This will put that yellow icon over the archer’s head.

The next step is to call to Ikaros and use him to tag everyone and everything on the island — specifically, you’re looking for the four people and the one treasure. Tagging an enemy with Ikaros will make their silhouette persistent on your HUD. And that will include the quest icon.

The archer is the enemy standing on the wooden platform on the southern edge of the Marooned Bandit Camp — this is right next to the dock.
Recruiting the archer
Dock the ship and climb up the nearby rocks. At the top, turn to the right to find the wooden platform.

Crouch down and sneak up behind the archer. At the top of the stairs, you should get a tip about how to Knock Out and then Recruit lieutenants.
