Head to camp and switch things up

In your Baldur’s Gate 3 journey, you’ll come across several adventurers. However, you’ll soon learn that you can’t bring them all along with you at once.

Each potential party members has their own quests that you can tackle when they’re with you, but you can only have three companions at a time. If you want to complete all their side quests, you’re going to need to swap between them.

In this Baldur’s Gate 3 guide, we’ll show you how to swap your party members whenever you want. It only takes two steps, but there are a few nuances worth knowing.

How to change party members

Once you have three members in your party, whenever you meet a new potential teammate, you’ll have the option to send them back to your camp. As you adventure along, they will patiently wait for you back at camp until you call on them. You can visit your camp at any time by fast traveling to it as a destination or by taking a long rest from the minimap menu.

Once you’re at your camp, talk to an active party member and ask them to stay at the camp. This will remove that person from your party, freeing up a space for a new party member.

Next talk to the party member who you want to add to your party, and invite them along on your quest. When someone joins, they will automatically gain some experience points to make up for the XP you’ve gathered while you had other active party members. This is a great system because it doesn’t hamper inactive party members while they’re absent.

You can travel to your camp at any time, so feel free to visit it when you want to swamp characters. If you fast traveled to your camp, go back to your map menu and select “leave camp” to instantly travel back to where you were previously.
