While Borderlands 3 has all the item rarities you expect from the series, its third installment adds a new perk to gear called anointed.
Any item that contains an anointed perk means that piece of gear, be it a weapon, shield or otherwise, has a unique perk. Not only that, but anointed perks can affect special skills that characters might have or may trigger special effects at the end of a skill’s use.
For instance, this shotgun is specifically anointed to the Beastmaster FL4K, as the yellow text at the bottom of its perk list shows. The perk information in orange relates specifically to one of FL4K’s active skills, Fade Away. When in use, the vault hunter’s accuracy and handling will increase.
Not every piece of anointed gear is class specific. Some will feature more generic text that will offer up benefits when any character’s active skill ends. In that case, the piece of gear will just say that it’s “anointed” at the end of its perk list.
Considering the special nature of these pieces of gear, they aren’t easy to come by. So how do you get a piece of anointed gear in Borderlands 3?
Where to get anointed gear
One of the easiest places to find anointed gear is in your ship, Sanctuary. You can find it at the Veteran Rewards vending machine near Crazy Earl in Ellie’s cargo bay. Keep in mind that gear from this vending machine costs Eridium, which is a rare resource in Borderlands 3. If you want to know more about where else you can spend Eridium, check out our Borderlands 3 Eridium guide.
You can also find anointed gear throughout Borderlands 3, especially much later in the game and some of the endgame modes. Anointed gear will likely be some of your most prized loot, so finding it will require a lot of Eridium or effort to obtain.
