Borderlands 3 may have a pretty long campaign, but you can still play after you reach the end. Beating the game unlocks Mayhem Mode which increases the difficulty and gives players the chance to get better loot.
In this guide, we’ll help you get a better idea of what exactly Mayhem Mode is and what kind of changes it makes to Borderlands 3.
How to unlock Mayhem Mode in Borderlands 3
You unlock Mayhem Mode by completing Borderlands 3’s campaign. Once you reach the end of the story, you’ll have a new terminal aboard Sanctuary where you can activate Mayhem Mode. When it’s active, you’ll see a small indicator underneath the XP bar at the bottom of the screen.
What does Mayhem Mode change?
Mayhem Mode is a way to increase the difficulty. You can select either Mayhem 1, 2, or 3. Each of those modes will increase stats like like enemy health, shields, and armor. But each difficulty will also drastically increase the amount of loot that enemies drop when they’re defeated.
What are Mayhem Mode’s modifiers?
Mayhem Mode also adjusts the difficulty by introducing random mods to the game. Each time you load into a new area, you’ll get a few new mods. These could be anything from increasing the damage you do with certain weapons to making a certain kind of enemy hit harder.
Can I use Mayhem Mode on True Vault Hunter difficulty?
No, you can’t. If you beat the game on Normal difficulty, you’ll only unlock Mayhem Mode for that. But once you finish the game on the True Vault Hunter difficulty, it appears that you’ll be able to use a True Vault Hunter-specific version of Mayhem Mode that you can use to make the hardest version of Borderlands 3 even harder.
