Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will take up less space at launch

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is already expected to be a massive game, both in terms of its hype and file size. In fact, in its original system specifications for Windows PC, Treyarch said that the game would need up to 250 GB of storage space. However, Treyarch has clarified that that number can be a little lower, if players choose so.

When players install Black Ops Cold War, they’ll have to install the whole game, but will be able to uninstall the modes they don’t want after that — a feature that recently came to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone on PC. This means that console players will need a set amount of storage to first load the game, however. Here are the requirements for each console:

PlayStation 5 — 133 GB

Xbox One — 93 GB

Xbox Series X and Series S — 136 GB

Meanwhile, PC players will be able to choose exactly which modes they install, rather than installing everything then uninstalling certain parts later. Here are the PC requirements for each mode:

Multiplayer — 35 GB

Full Game — 82 GB

Full Game and Ultra Graphics — 125 GB

While this is a massive step down from the original PC requirement of up to 250 GB, none of these numbers appear to include Warzone, which is probably right around 80 GB for most platforms. With Warzone included, the file size likely jumps to at least 200 GB when combined with the full game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to be released on Nov. 13. Players who have pre-ordered the game can begin pre-loading it in the next few days, according to Treyarch.
