Call of Duty: Warzone’s new map teased in Black Ops Cold War trailer

Looks like we’re returning to Rebirth Island

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s first season is rapidly approaching and that means major changes are on their way to Warzone as well. In a trailer released Monday, Treyarch teased some of the additions coming to Black Ops Cold War season 1, as well as what seems to be a brand-new map for Warzone.

The trailer shows off Stitch, a new Call of Duty Operator who has a grudge against Adler, one of the main characters from Black Ops Cold War’s campaign. Stitch had a hand in manufacturing a chemical known as Nova-6, which in the Black Ops canon was a World War II-era weapon that’s been passed around the world by various organizations and governments since.

Nova-6 is also tied to a Black Ops location called Rebirth Island. The island was the setting for a mission in the original Black Ops. Now the island has reappeared in this trailer as an important part of Stitch’s revenge plan. But based on the info we know, it seems like this island is likely to host some kind of new Warzone content when it arrives with Black Ops Cold War’s first season.

The island’s real name is Vozrozhdeniya Island. In Treyarch’s original roadmap for Black Ops Cold War season 1, there was a section for a “classified Warzone experience” with several words blacked out. One of the redacted phrases ended with “niya Island.” That fact, along with the appearance of Rebirth Island in season 1’s teaser trailer, certainly seems to suggest that Warzone is headed to the classic Black Ops island.

One thing we don’t know, however, is what the mode is headed there for. While it’s certainly possible that Rebirth island will serve as a replacement for Verdansk, Rebirth Island appears to be much smaller than the current Warzone map. On top of that, Treyarch’s roadmap only says that we should expect a “classified Warzone experience” this season, which could mean anything from a new map to a limited-time mode that’s hosted on Rebirth Island.

Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to discover what’s next for Warzone. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone’s new season will begin on Dec. 16. The new season will also add new weapons to Black Ops Cold War, and a new mall-based map which we can see in this same teaser. On top of that the entire Black Ops Cold War arsenal will be coming over to Warzone with the update as well.
