On Wednesday, Call of Duty: Warzone replaced all its playlists with a single option: Know Your History. This single mission is part of the teaser process for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Launching the playlist sends players into a special match where the tip screen turns red and displays several images from inside the existing Warzone bunkers. All locations on the map are also redacted, and players are able to respawn.
Here’s a video from YouTuber Geeky Pastimes, showing off the final half of the mission.
When players land, they get a set of objectives. First, they need to loot boxes or kill five enemies for Intel, giving them a map code. With the map code, the game sends players to a specific spot on the map to find a key. After that, the game marks a large spot on the map, telling players to search the area and find a cipher to crack the map code. Once they find the book, the game requests players to “wield the weapon,” sending them to some specific map coordinates.
When players reach the “weapon,” they run into Woods from Call of Duty: Black Ops. Woods offers a new weapon blueprint for a single-shot rifle called “Bay of Pigs.”
During the entire mission, players have a timer. When the timer runs out, the original teaser video for Black Ops Cold War starts to play. Shortly afterwards, players drop back into the map with the simple objective of running toward the Verdansk stadium.
During this phase, players have no weapons. Airplanes fly overhead and words from the teaser superimpose themselves onto the player’s screen. Poison gas chases players into the stadium and the full trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War plays.
Players get a unique calling card, emblem, trinket, and the aforementioned blueprint for completing the special mission. After completing it, players can dive back in to do the mission again.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a direct sequel to the original Black Ops. It follows Woods, Mason, and Hudson into the Cold War. Players will encounter historical figures, like President Ronald Reagan, and battle through key Cold War locations, like East Berlin, Vietnam, and the KGB Headquarters.
This live reveal follows a series of live events from games like Fortnite and, most recently, Destiny 2.
Update: The Know Your History playlist is now unavailable — meaning it was only up for an hour. It’s currently unclear if it will return.
