Treyarch has revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s multiplayer and it’s making a big change to one of the series’ signature features: Killstreaks. In Black Ops Cold War, Killstreaks have been replaced by Scorestreaks, which are similar but have a few key differences.
The first big difference between the old streaks and the new streaks is how they’re counted. While old streaks only used kills to earn your powerful abilities, Black Ops Cold War’s streaks are based on points earned, making them a little more favorable for players that focus on objectives. The other major difference is that Scorestreaks don’t reset when players die. To balance out that change, Scorestreaks are more expensive than kill streaks, and you earn multipliers the more points you earn while you‘re alive so you still won’t be able to rack up the top streaks without staying alive for quite a while.
Other than those two major differences, most of the Scorestreaks themselves should be pretty recognizable for past Call of Duty players. There’s the Spy Plane that reveals enemy locations, various bombing runs that you can call in, the automatic Attack Helicopter, and the Chopper Gunner that you can control yourself.
One notable addition is the Air Patrol Scorestreak, which acts as a counter to other airborne Scorestreaks. This means if someone calls in a Chopper Gunner, you could call in your Air Patrol to take it out. This kind of a defensive Scorestreak is pretty new to the series which has mostly focused on offensive streaks in previous games.
Ahead of Treyarch’s multiplayer reveal on Sept. 9, Polygon had a chance to check out the multiplayer during a demo. During that time we scoped out all the Scorestreaks that were available in the demo and you can find out full list below.
We’ll continue to update this post as we get closer to launch and more Scorestreaks are revealed.
