Dragon Age: Magekiller #1 Preview: Magic is a cheat

Dark Horse Comics' Magekiller is the latest official tie-in story to Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Susana Polo is an entertainment editor at Polygon, specializing in pop culture and genre fare, with a primary expertise in comic books. Previously, she founded The Mary Sue.

Magekiller promises a lot: a story set parallel with the events of last year's Dragon Age: Inquisition, a main character who's been described as "the Tevinter Boba Fett," appearances from major game characters and our first look at Minrathous — the capital city of the Tevinter Empire — in franchise history. But in the hands of Greg Rucka, one of the best comics writers out there — and a big fan of Bioware and Dragon Age — it seems like it's well on the way to delivering.

Courtesy of Dark Horse Comics, we get to show you five whole pages of Magekiller #1, which will hit shelves and digital comics outlets on Dec. 16. For more on the series, its setting and its protagonists, Marius and Tessa, as well as what it means for Dragon Age, read our coverage of its announcement.
