Hellboy in Hell preview: and then things get worse

Hellboy is in Hell.

Mike Mignola's twenty-plus-year old creation has had his ups and downs over the years. Friends and loved ones have come and gone, he's had his fallings out with the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, he's met gods and monsters and luchadors. But now he's dead.

And he's in Hell.

What's come to be known as the Mignolaverse is a sprawling set of curiously consistent comics overseen, though not always directly created by, Mike Mignola, telling dark stories of the B.P.R.D. and its top agents. What has made Hellboy in Hell so special is that it represents a return of the creator to his biggest character, crafting both the art and writing. The first arc of the story is collected in Hellboy in Hell: The Descent.

The second arc, "The Hounds of Pluto," kicks off next month, on Aug. 26, and things have not improved for our hero. Here's the cover and three interior pages from the new issue:
