Hellboy and his colleagues at the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense are tackling their toughest challenge yet: 1950s American suburbia.

The Hellboy and the B.P.R.D: 1953 trade paperback hits comic shelves today, collecting the five-issue miniseries into one handy volume. Courtesy of Dark Horse Comics, you can read the whole first issue — first published in February — below, before deciding whether you want to pick up the whole book. Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. features the work of Mike Mignola, Chris Roberson, Paolo Rivera, Ben Stenbeck, Michael Walsh, Joe Rivera and Dave Stewart.

And just for good measure, here's the official synopsis:

Hellboy and his mentor Bruttenholm travel across England and confront the phantom hand of a murderer, a demonic water spirit, and some of the most horrible figures of British folklore—Rawhead Rex and Bloody Bones. Back in the States, Hellboy rejoins the team from 1952 as a monster with possible ties to an earlier mission ravages a suburban community.
